Hyderabad(Hyd): When rain water flooded some wards in Osmania Gen. Hospital (3) (OGH) past month, it seemed as in case that has been the main problem the old heritage apartment has been facing. Although, that appears to be least of the issues plaguing the state-owned hospital (3), that is presently facing a shortage of oxygen supply, & different equipment needed by this employees to handle sufferers. In reality, shutting down the old apartment has even resulted in Operation Theaters (OT) presently not working, stated doctors.
“The wards getting flooded past month have been the least of our issues, as even afterwards there has been a shortage of oxygen supply. As of now, because everything was moved out of the old apartment, & there is less space, we don’t even have an Operation Theater (OT). Sufferers are being inquired to go far away due to this. Post-graduate candidates were complaining, however it’s of no utilize,” stated a junior doctor from OGH, who didn’t need to be quoted.
Infra-structure issues in OGH were there from numerous yrs., although, some doctors functioning there have also rised the query of vacating & emptying the old apartment during this ongoing COVID-19 (COVID-19-19) epidemic. “As it’s there is a shortage of space. When doctors complain, the administration states that they’re being too emotional & brushes it off,” claimed the other junior doctor, who’s functioning in OGH, & who also appealed anonymity.
Past month in Jul, the wards on the floors on OGH’s old heritage apartment have been flooded with water because of heavy rain, leading to a people outrage. In a week after the incident, the director of Medical Health released orders to vacate the apartment & seal it shut. Although, in days, rain water seeping started seeping using the roof of the Quli Qutb Shah apartment (in the rear) apartment as well.
“Within the new stop we’ve moved to, water begins leaking from that roof when it rains. There have been no gloves also for us. Last week, after a point, we gave up & initiated investigating sufferers with our hands, after that we’d to sterilize ourselves. Besides, within the COVID-19-19 quarantine wards where suspected sufferers are kept, we couldn’t connect ventilators to sufferers as the oxygen supply doesn’t have sufficient stress. Citizens have passed away due to this,” said the 1st doctor quoted above.
When approached, Dr. B. Nagender, supervisor, OGH, stated that the hospital (3) is still transitioning in shifting from 1 apartment to the other, & that it’ll take (2) some mos for everything to gain smoothened out. “You tell me, is it possible to accommodate everything within the new apartment? Issues going to be there. In OGH, suddenly there is a calamity & there is epidemic going on around the globe. It’ll take (2) time (for problems to be solved),” he added further.
The biography
OGH has been finished in 1925, after Hyderabad(Hyd) has been affected by this bubonic plague about 1911. The city administration afterwards taken care of the problem, following that the afterwards Nizam Osman Ali Khan (1911-48) set up the City Improvement Board (CIB) in 1912 to enhance Hyderabad(Hyd)’s infra-structure. It has been designed by architect Vincent Esch, who also designed the Victoria Memorial in Kolkata.
The OGH’s old apartment (with remaining like High Court & City College) is a fine example of the Osmanian style (or) Indo Saracenic genre of architecture & is an integral part of Hyderabad(Hyd)’s 20th century riverscape & skyline. The CIB during this reign of Osman Ali Khan had transformed the medieval city into a modern metropolis, full with infra-structure like the High Court, railway stations, educational institutions & OGH.
