Hyderabad(Hyd): Alarms are being rised for the city’s 2 reservoirs – one Himayat Sagar & the other Osman Sagar, as incessant rains within the catchment region caused the water levels within the upstream approach its brim.
With massive inflows into Himayat Sagar & Osman Sagar, the officials are likely to declare the excess floodwater into Musi river.
Meantime, the Indian Meteorological Dept. (IMD) on Sat. night released an orange alert, requesting dist. authorities to be equipped for extra rainfall.
On Sat. night, authorities stated that Osman Sagar is complete & is getting an inflow of 20,000 cusecs (cubic foot per 2nd). “Gates may be opened any time,” they stated. The Complete Tank Level (FTL) of Osman Sagar is 1,753 ft.
Greater Hyderabad(Hyd) Municipal Corporation (GHMC) has inquired all deputy commissioners & zonal commissioners of Golconda, Asif Nagar, Bahadurpura, Nampally, Charminar, Himayath Nagar & Saidabad to be on high alert for inundation & evacuation in case the want arises.
The gates of Himayat Sagar are also likely to be opened Sat. night as the reservoir is getting massive inflows because of heavy rainfall within the catchment regions.
The water level in Himayat Sagar approached 1,756 ft over its complete tank level of 1,763.50 ft. Flood gates going to be opened once the water level approaches 1,760 ft.
Hyderabad(Hyd) Police Commissioner Anjani Kumar advised citizens in regions on the banks of the river to be alert.
“Because of heavy rains within the catchment regions of Musi River, flash floods may come after midnight. It’s best to be alert within the low-lying regions on Musi Bank like Kishanbagh, Ziaguda, Puranapul, MGBS, Chaderghat, Golnaka,” he stated.
