Director Bong Joon-ho’s satire-thriller “Parasite” made history, getting nominations in 6 categories, including best director, best picture and best global feature film, for its 2024 Academy Awards.
The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences on Monday(January 13) morning in America released the complete list of its nominations for its 92nd Academy Awards, which comprised the first-ever Korean film to be nominated for any award, “Parasite.”
While Yang Jin-mo was nominated for Lee Ha-jun and best movie editing, bong was nominated for the best screenplay along with Han Jin-won and Cho Won-woo made a nod for best production style.
While Korean films were rapping on the Academy’s doors since 1962, it was just last year a substantial breakthrough has been made with director Lee Chang-dong’s puzzle drama”Burning” getting the first Korean movie to be shortlisted in the best foreign-language picture category.
Even though”Burning” failed to create the last record, “Parasite” not just got exactly the exact same nod, but made six nominations overall only a year after.
Beginning with all the Palme d’Or triumph at last year’s Cannes Film Festival, his group and Bong have been sweeping bagging some 80 decorations from awards shows little and large. Only a week, “Parasite” won a Golden Globe for the best foreign-language movie, the very first such win for its 101-year-old Korean movie market.
While all six nominations are important, the nomination for the best image holds exceptional significance for”Parasite,” since it’s the sole non-English-language movie one of the two nominees. While members in the fields select finalists for classes — for example movie editing, acting and directing — members vote to get the best movie category.
“Nomination for the very best picture suggests the piece is outstanding no matter the terminology it uses,” civilization critic Kim Hern-sik told The Korea Herald. “Since Bong has pointed out, Europeans and Westerners practiced something similar to a quota system in recognizing (movies from) Asia and the Third World.
Formerly, it felt like an exception was designed to give awards (to those pictures ), but they are not an exclusion or a particular genre.”
