AUGUSTA, Maine — The Maine Center for Disease Control and Prevention was Alarmed Friday afternoon of an Evaluation for equine encephalitis at a horse at York County.
Friday was euthanized.
Here is the instance of a horse contracting EEE in Maine.
“This positive response affirms that mosquitoes carrying the virus are found in Maine, that’s why Maine CDC urges the nation’s residents and people to take precautions to safeguard themselves and their creatures from mosquito bites,” said Nirav D. Shah, Director of Maine CDC. “We need everyone to take precautions while enjoying this holiday weekend”
Maine CDC has been advocate state residents to take precautionary steps to safeguard themselves from the virus that is damaging.
There are no verified cases of EEE or West Nile virus in people in Maine this past year. EEE between an individual in Maine’s case was in 2015.
