Kolkata: 3 people, belonging to a crowd of banjaras, have been detained for reportedly stealing multiple valuables, involving gold & silver jewelry, from numerous homes in various parts of Kolkata, police officer said on Tue..
The arrests have been made on the basis of cases registered by locals of Entally, Narkeldanga & Phoolbagan, they stated.
Investigators of the Anti-Burglary Squad of the Kolkata Police’s Detective Dept. identified involvement of a male beggar with kids & they commanded the officials to the crowd of banjaras, the brains behind the crimes, police officer said.
“During this inquiry, we identified that the crowd of banjaras has been temporarily residing within the Sealdah station complex adjacent to the Entally PS (police station) region. We held a raid on Sep 11 night & detained the 3 people,” a Sr. official stated.
Multiple items, involving gold & silver ornaments, mementos, mobile phones & laptops, have been recovered from them, he stated.
The items matched with those mentioned within the cases, he added further.
The 3 charged are in police custody until Sep 17 & the issue is under inquiry, he stated.
