GREENFIELD — Greenfield Community College is currently expanding its own certification in leadership by providing an associate degree in adventure education, starting.
The certification program has served as a flagship application getting certification and was started in 1980. The diploma option will offer leadership opportunities and learning for students that are considering pursuing education in the area of instruction and leadership.
Based on Stacy Metzger, GCC’s main communications and marketing officer, the application will help prepare students to successfully move to four-year institutions where they’ll subsequently have the ability to earn a bachelor’s degree in areas like experience education, recreation and tourism, and physical education and environmental education.
Ecological stewardship’s subject is embedded within the program, Metzger additional, which will enable pupils to become leaders.
“Franklin County is the recreation capital of this country and our certification graduates are hired before they complete,” GCC President Yves Salomon-Fernandez explained. “This program enables students with an interest in the outside to research and research how our society could sustainably and responsibly associate to and recreate a natural world that’s undergoing climatic change and human encroachment.”
The faculty worked closely to develop Metzger said.
While the program motivates students to operate in outside facilities, paddling colleges and outside schools, such as the National Outdoor Leadership School and Outward Bound, graduates can also find success in human services organizations, educational associations which use adventure education and an assortment of recreational programs and companies, ” she said.
“The outdoor experience market has been growing and famous for several years and contains many exciting activities, including biking, hiking, mountaineering, rock climbing, ski, whitewater canoeing, sea kayaking, wilderness camping and much more,” explained Bob Tremblay, director of the Outdoor Leadership Program.
“All these tasks give multi-seasonal, yearlong job opportunities for our students,” Tremblay continuing. “Moreover, our brand new Adventure Education diploma will open pathways for our pupils to fully pursue their academic and professional passions in many varied areas such as tourism, education, outdoor gear retail and layout, youth camps, climbing gymsand corporate leadership training and wilderness therapy.”
Along with the present certification program and the newest diploma program, students have the chance to get nationally recognized hard-skilled certificates in the Professional Climbing Instructors Association (rock climbing teacher ), Association for Challenge Course Technology (obstacle class expert ), American Canoe Association (canoe and coastal kayak instructor) and wilderness first-responder certificate.
The certificates utilize application coursework to ensure that not leave a certification or a diploma to GCC, but with a certificate, should they choose.
