“I then thought that I heard a sound… and the ground was moving,” said Baker, a checker in the shop.
This was the force of the most effective earthquake to hit the Gem State since 1983, a size 6.5 temblor that jolted individuals across Idaho and three neighboring countries. No injuries or damage were reported.
The quake was centered 73 miles northeast of Meridian, near Boise, as stated by the U.S. Geological Survey, also, for many, awakened memories of the nation’s worst such all-natural disaster, the 6.9 size Borah Peak earthquake almost four years ago that killed two people and led to millions in damages, according to the Idaho Geological Survey.
“Initially I thought it was thunder, bizarre thunder, but the home was moving and that I realized that this is an earthquake — a very major earthquake,” explained Melissa Hawkins, 44, who lives in northwest Boise along with her loved ones. “It felt as though it had been at Boise.”
The prolonged shaking brought back childhood memories. Tuesday she recalls lights at the home swinging and saw the happening.
“I had been crying at the kids to get from the doors. They did not understand what was happening,” she explained.
