Washington(WA), September 22 : US Republican lawmakers going to affirm President Donald Trump’s nominee to replace late Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg before the Nov three presidential election, Senate Judiciary Committee Chairman Lindsey Graham has predicted.
“I’ve witnessed this move before. It’s not going to work (5). We’ve got (1) the votes to affirm Justice Ginsburg’s replacement before the election. We’re going to move forward within the committee. We’re going to record the nomination out of the committee to the floor of the US Senate so we could vote before the election,” The Hill information site quoted Graham as informing in a Fox Information interview on Mon..
“We’re going to have a procedure that you’ll be proud of. The nominee is going to be supported by each Republican within the Judiciary Committee.
“& we’ve got (1) the votes to affirm the justice on the floor of the Senate before the election, & that’s what’s coming,” he added further.
Graham’s prediction comes as Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell has been yet to affirm in case he’d push for a vote before the election (or) await till the end-of-the-year session.
Till now, 2 Republican Senators — Alaska(AK)’s Lisa Murkowski & Maine(ME)’s Susan Collins — have resisted to electing a Justice before the election.
Senate Republicans, who hold a 53-47 majority within the chamber, could only afford a overall of 3 defections in their own party for a Trump nominee to be sanctioned, Xinhua press agency recorded.
Following the passing of Ginsburg on Sep 18 because of pancreatic cancer, Democrats retained that a nominee must be tapped by this next President.
The day after her demise, Trump pushed Republicans in a tweet to affirm his own nomination “without delay”, thereafter telling journalists that he’ll “most likely” announce a female nominee “next week”.
